Portugal. The Man and Weird Al take over RATM

Music news

The band and their very special guests closed their recent concert in Brooklyn with a supercharged version of “Killing In the Name.”

At a recent concert, Portugal. The Man called on two musical comedy maestros, “Weird Al” Yankovic And Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Islandfor a very sincere – although obviously very amusing – cover of “Killing In the Name” of Rage Against the Machine.

This cover took place at the end of the concert of Portugal. The Man in Brooklyn this Tuesday, December 2, with Yankovic And Taccone to reinforce the vocals. The performance brought together all the ingredients of an improvised cover of Rage : heavy riffs, powerful screams, a crazy mosh pit, and Taccone disguised as Pee Wee Herman for some obscure reason.

As the group indicated in the caption of an excerpt shared on TikTok: “Killing in the Name of, but in absolute chaos version. »

A lasting friendship

The resumption of Rage was actually only one of two pieces performed by Yankovic that evening, the musician having also joined Portugal. The Man for a version of their hit “Live in the Moment”. Yankovic and the band met in 2013 and have remained close ever since. In 2018, Portugal. The Man had ordered vintage polka remixes with “Weird Al” sauce for “Feel It Still” And “Live in the Moment”. And in 2020, to mark Indigenous Peoples' Day, they teamed up for a new single, “Who’s Gonna Stop Me”.

Taccone's miraculous return

For fans of The Lonely Islandthe presence of Taccone on stage was also particularly notable, even remarkable. The comedian, actor and filmmaker seemed surprisingly mobile for someone who fell from a 20-foot ladder in September, completely shattering his pelvis. Without going so far as to say that Taccone was throwing himself in all directions, he seemed comfortable hopping around in his outfit Pee Wee Herman.
