Wiz Khalifa sentenced to 9 months in prison in Romania for possession of cannabis
Wiz Khalifa's favorite pastime has gotten him into trouble. The rapper was sentenced to serve nine months in a Romanian prison for possession of cannabis.
On Thursday (December 18), Romanian newspaper Cancan reported that the Constanta Court of Appeal convicted the rapper of drug possession for personal use.
The incident that led to the court ruling occurred in July 2024, when Wiz was stopped by Romanian police for smoking weed on stage at the Costine Festival where he was performing. Wiz was stopped by police after his performance and was found in possession of more than 18 grams of marijuana, but was later released.
In April, at first instance, Wiz Khalifa was fined around 830 dollars “for illegal possession of dangerous substances”, a sentence that did not convince the public prosecutor who had appealed. He has now been sentenced to 9 months in prison, but it is unclear whether the Romanian authorities will submit an extradition requestsince the rapper is a US citizen and does not reside in Romania.
Romania has very strict drug laws. Possession of cannabis for personal use is considered a crime and can lead to a prison sentence of between three months and two years, or a fine.
