“Queen Of Nothing”, the new release from SOFTCULT

Music news

A look at the sonic and lyrical direction the album will take.

SOFTCULT has shared his latest single, “Queen Of Nothing.” This release marks the end of the series of previews and is presented as the key piece that culminates the prelude to their long-awaited debut album, When A Flower Doesn't Growwhich promises to consolidate the musical proposal of the Canadian duo, exploring themes of vulnerability, resistance and social criticism that have characterized their career.

“Queen Of Nothing” is now available on all digital platforms, offering a glimpse into the sonic and lyrical direction the album will take. The band has maintained a consistent tone of urgency and empowerment throughout their previous singles, and this final song is no exception.

This song is about the double standards, harsh judgments, and unrealistic expectations that patriarchal society places on women. We are expected to be sexy, but only to the extent that it applies to male fantasy; somehow, a virgin and a slut. “We are expected to constantly feed the men in our lives and we are shamed if our aspirations go beyond becoming wives and mothers,” said vocalist Mercedes Arn-Horn.
