From December 31st, MTV will permanently close its music channels

From 31 December 2025, MTV will permanently close its music channels in Europe, including Italy.

It's the end of an era for music television and the channel that has defined youth culture and music discovery for decades.

After 44 years, MTV is shutting down its global music video channels, marking the final chapter of music television as we knew it.

The reason is simple: audiences have stopped watching music on TV. Discovery moved to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and streaming platforms long ago, leaving traditional music channels behind.

For anyone who grew up discovering artists through MTV channels, this inexorably marks the end of an era, which in a certain sense was already over a long time ago, but it is also an indication of how the way we experience music is constantly evolving.
