In a recent interview, the youngest of the Jonas Brothers has confessed that one of his favorite verses is: “Hit me like a gut punch. I hurt my own feelings… How did I get so good at being mean to myself?”.
The meaning behind Gut Punch
This single represents a deep dive into Nick Jonas's personal introspection. Dressed in soft melody on the piano, addresses the internal insecurities and constant self-criticism that, as a father and husband, has intensified over the years.
With lyrics that feel close (““I hurt my own feelings”), Nick opens a window into his emotional vulnerability. “I tend to be very critical of myself. Am I doing everything in my power to be the best version of myself? Am I a present and attentive husband? Am I a good father?” he said about the inspiration for this single.
Gut Punch and the album Sunday Best
The topic is the cover letter of Sunday Besthis first solo album in five years. The project will feature 11 songs that explore his family life, his marriage to Priyanka Chopra and his role as father to Malti, highlighting a narrative and personal approach that Nick describes as “a narrative stripped back of protections and armor.”
