CAVS announces album and releases “Candiru”

A journey through the vast rhythmic imagination of Michael Cavanagh.

CAVSthe instrumental solo project of Michael Cavanaghknown as the drummer of the Australian band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizardis ready to release his long-awaited second studio album, Sojournhe April 24. In advance of this release, he has shared the first single, a piece titled “Candiru”.

Sojourn It follows their 2021 self-titled debut and is distinguished by its fascinating creative process. What originally began as a “rhythm tape” composed by samples and rudimentary ideas, she was meticulousmindfully reworked and transformed with the collaboration of a selection of Melbourne musicians. This in-depth review of the material included the key participation of Jim Rindfleish (band member Midlife), who assumed the role of co-producer, and the contribution of Joey Walkercompanion of Cavanagh in King Gizzardadding vital layers and textures to the sound.

Jim Rindfleish describes that the initial material already had a strong visual quality, being conceived as a “journey to an unexplored island.” To realize this vision, the team decided to engrave the pieces using real instruments, seeking to explore and project the musical and rhythmic facet of Cavanagh beyond its role in King Gizzard.
