What is the Meltdown Festival
Meltdown is a unique festival within the international circuit because each edition is directed by a different artist. That is, it does not respond to conventional programming, but rather the identity of the poster depends on the vision and tastes of the invited creator.
Throughout its history, the event has had highly prestigious figures who have personally selected the participating musicians. In 2025 the responsibility fell to Little Simz, while in previous years names such as Robert Smith, Grace Jones or Nile Rodgers assumed that role.. This formula has turned Meltdown into a platform that combines established artists with innovative proposals.
Harry Styles' thanks
The singer has publicly shown his enthusiasm for assuming this responsibility. “It is a great honor for me to curate the Meltdown festival, especially to mark the 75th anniversary of the Southbank Centre. “My goal is to share the music and art I love, and celebrate the venue's rich history.”he declared.
“We both share the strong belief that music is a vital part of life. It unites us, and the Southbank Center has been a central element, facilitating access to good music for the last 75 years. I am immensely grateful to Southbank for inviting me; “It is really exciting for me to have this opportunity in such an emblematic venue”he added.
The appointment comes at a time of enormous visibility for Styles. The artist recently announced a concert residency that will tour the world, which sparked massive demand for ticket pre-sales.
With his incorporation as artistic director of Meltdown, Styles not only reaffirms his weight as a key figure in contemporary pop, but also takes another step in his involvement within the music industry, now also from the perspective of cultural programming.
