The thrash metal you need to hear.
In the midst of a metal scene that never stops reinventing itself in Mexico, Venemous It is positioned as one of the unmissable proposals of the wave thrashera. With a trajectory that has grown at the pace of its own members, the band has built a project where evolution is the result of experience, changes and the constant search to take their music further.
In Indie Rocks! Magazinewe talk with Tavo and Nestor of Venemous about his next studio album, Legacy Unwrittenhis manifesto and the Mexican trash scene.
GO!: Let's start talking about the passage of time, how you have perceived the progress of your music from its beginnings until now that you present new material.
V: I think it has been a very natural evolution, in the sense that the band started when we were all very young, right? I mean, Andy and Omar They started the band when they were about 15 years old, 14. So, obviously that is reflected in the music, right? Both in the way of composing, and in the sound they were looking for. You can see a lot of influences from other bands that they were listening to a lot at that time. And as the singles and albums came out, there was more and more input from different influences. Anyway, well I'll arrive later and then he'll arrive Nestor. And obviously each one of us is adding our own touch to the sound. And just as we grew, so does the sound grow. And we seek to provide better quality in every sense, in composition, in recording, in depth, in transcendence. All that we put in the songs, obviously directed at the public. So I think it has been a very natural process, but it is also reflected in the growth that we have had.
GO!: It kind of advances a little hand in hand with personal growth.
V: Exactly. More or less like this, that's how we could put it. I mean, I think it is very much accompanied by that and it is what has been defining as well. Well, as we grow we want to sound better, we want to do more things, go further, fulfill our dreams, our goals. And that's what leads us to look for better sounds.
GO!: Furthermore, it is perceived that there is a scene that is consolidating very strongly within thrash metal in Mexico, what can you tell us about it?
V: Well, the thrash scene, since we were teenagers until the present day, has always existed. Perhaps before because there were not so many facilities when it came to recording and uploading your project to the Internet. So, although it has always been there, maybe before the number of bands was a little less. However, nowadays, it is very accessible for musicians to upload our music everywhere. There are even platforms that raffle off that job and then release the songs to all social networks, to all social media platforms. streaming. And that has also globalized, I believe, the musical panorama in thrash. There have always been bands, now because new proposals arise every time. And it's always very interesting, right? Because everyone has their personal touch to launch their projects. So, yes, it is a consolidated scene and the truth continues to grow.
GO!: In the new material, Legacy Unwritteninclude a manifesto, tell us about this.
V: Although we always consider that what we offer to the world we are not going to release until it is of a quality that convinces us, there were also certain external factors that made it a quite complicated process. That is, issues like the pandemic, which hit many aspects of all of our lives, which complicated the entire process of composition, production, and releases quite a bit. Everything had to change, had to adapt. Member changes too. However, I think what needs to be highlighted about this is that despite everything that happened, we continued forward. And we could have just released the entire album during the pandemic, but what we want is for each song to be unique, to have its essence, to be something special. And when people hear it they can really identify with what we say, with what we offer them. So, yes it is an album that comes from deep within us. And let's say it's a people-to-people album. It is not an album that looks for numbers, it is not an album that looks for figures. We really want to reach people.
GO!: It's also an album designed for live performances, right?
V: Well, these songs too, as part of the evolution of the band, we seek to make more impressive, more dynamic shows. So there are songs on the album that lend themselves very well to generating a dynamic in the shows, both on stage and the elements that we upload, apart from the team's music, as an element of spectacle and also of connection with the public. So, yes, there are parts of the songs that lend themselves very well to shows, both for small clubs and for a larger stage, with more people. That has us very excited, honestly.
GO!: Yes, and the official presentation is coming on April 24, what do you expect from this date?
V: Well, we want it to be something unforgettable, both for us and for all the people who listen to it. We want to share it with everyone, to reach many people. And obviously we want to show our essence and with that essence differentiate ourselves with our personality compared to other bands. Each band has an essence, each band has its personality. So we believe that we already have very defined who we are, what it is Venemous and we want to show it to the world. When we make a song we think so much about how it will sound and how it will look. So, whether in videos or live shows, we start to visualize what we want people to see, experience. We want you to take away an experience when you see us or meet us. So I think what we are looking for is to reach as many people as possible, to play in many cities, both here in Mexico and outside of Mexico. We want the album to go far and be heard by everyone.
GO!: Within your album cover, what artists or what inspirations were part of this new release?
Vs: Well, we want, well, let's say that there is an essence that our covers have, all our covers, which is that we have a character who is a monk, who can be seen on the covers of our other albums, and this monk represents a little bit of the human being, but also the evil inherent in us, right? Little by little, this character is also growing, as are we, as well as the band, and is developing. So, we were very influenced by surrealist photographs to make this cover, and it is precisely a photograph. When you see it, please do not think that it is artificial intelligence, we worked hard to bring out this cover, which was very original, which had many elements that are us, but it precisely has those surreal touches.
GO!: To close this talk, with what message do you invite people to listen to your new album?
Venemous: Give yourself the opportunity to listen to the album and attend one of our shows. I think they are going to have a pleasant experience. May you never give up on achieving your goals and dreams. And if someone is having a hard time, we extend our hand to them forever, and we will see each other there.
