The Rolling Stones announce, after various rumors and teasers in recent days, the release of their new studio album, “Foreign Tongues”, arriving on July 10th.
The new album contains 14 incredibly vivid songs and arrives less than three years after “Hackney Diamonds”, a critically acclaimed album and winner of 1 Grammy Award, which topped the charts around the world and achieved enormous success.
The new album will be preceded by the first single “In the Stars”, a cheerful and engaging song, together with the album's opening track “Rough and Twisted”.
Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood will attend the press launch of “Foreign Tongues” today in Brooklyn, New York.
Before today's official announcement, the band was able to discreetly fuel the anticipation for the new project, also thanks to the limited edition release of the song “Rough and Twisted” on white label vinyl, under the pseudonym The Cockroaches. Circulating among fans and collectors, this release has already sparked excitement and speculation about the sound and direction of “Foreign Tongues,” offering a first taste of the album's explosive and exploratory energy.
Recorded during a period of exceptional creativity, 'Foreign Tongues' came to life in less than a month at Metropolis Studios in West London, with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood reuniting with Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt, who had previously helmed 'Hackney Diamonds'. The result is a dynamic, forward-thinking record that captures the band's signature sound while pushing into new sonic and textual territory, further cementing their unrivaled legacy.
The album features exceptional performances from Jagger, Richards and Wood, joined by their regular collaborators, including Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford and Steve Jordan. It also includes a special guest appearance from Charlie Watts, recorded during one of his last studio sessions before his passing in 2021. To top it all off, an impressive lineup of guest artists, including Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith of The Cure and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Reflecting on the recording process, Mick Jagger said: “I love doing these recording sessions in London, at the Metropolis. The weeks dedicated to the recording of “Foreign Tongues” were very intense. We had 14 great songs and we worked as fast as we could. I like that room because it's not too big, so you can feel the passion of everyone present.”
Keith Richards added: «The “Foreign Tongues” album is a continuation of “Hackney Diamonds” and it was great to work in London again and have that London atmosphere around us. It was a month of great intensity. For me, what matters is fun. I'm lucky to be able to do this and I hope it lasts a long time.”
Ronnie Wood commented: «The atmosphere in the studio was really creative and the whole band gave their all throughout the whole process. Very often we hit the target on the first shot. I hope everyone likes it.”
THE COVER
The evocative album cover is a painting created by the famous American artist Nathaniel Mary Quinn, who commented:
Creating the album cover for the Rolling Stones is an artistic honor: a dialogue with one of the most enduring forces in cultural history.”
FORMATS
