Starting the concert of consecration with an early piece is a declaration of intent. An identifying gesture. For his first, highly anticipated San Siro, Tedua chooses his roots, his history.
The opening entrusted to Shopping Bagstrace symbol of Orange County California of 2017, describes this choice perfectly. No chart-topping singles, no deliberately constructed nostalgia effects. Just one of the songs most loved by his community, the one that has accompanied him since the stadiums were still a mirage.
In a Milan suffocated by the heat, Tedua immediately makes it clear that the evening will not only be a celebration of the present, but a journey into his own artistic and human history.
The concert thus takes on the contours of a great collective party, almost a generational reunion.
The scenography renounces the spectacular monumentality that often accompanies stadium shows. No pharaonic superstructure, no ballet and glitter, few scenic artifices. An essential urban aesthetic dominates on stage: large LED walls, writings, projected texts, images that flow like pages of a visual diary. He remains the center of the scene, together with his crew.
A choice that works because it is consistent with Tedua's poetics. Even at the stadium, the Genoese rapper does not lose the street dimension that fueled his imagination. San Siro thus becomes an enormous temporary neighborhood, populated by friends, travel companions, old alliances and new affinities.
And the friends, in fact, arrive one after the other. An almost interminable procession that returns the sentimental geography from Genoa to Milan there and back built over these years: Nerissima Serpe, Rkomi, Vaz Tè, Bresh, Tony Effe, Latrelle, Sfera Ebbasta, Kid Yugi, Capo Plaza, Sayf, Annalisa, Lazza, thasup, Disme. More than a parade of guests, a choral tale of a scene that grew together with him.
The setlist, forty-one songs, spans all the seasons of his discography. From True Life to Mowgli, naturally passing through The Divine Comedy up to the most recent pages of Ryan Ted Mixtape. The audience knows every word. San Siro sweats, sings, jumps. He doesn't simply attend a concert: he participates in a collective ritual.
The show favors the celebratory dimension over the performative one, relying above all on the great strength of its repertoire and the symbolic value of the event.
Probably, that was exactly the point. More than surprising, Tedua wanted to share the achievement with his people.
And judging by the stadium's response, the goal was fully achieved.
