For EQmaking music means building a universe where friendship, visual arts, fashion and theatricality coexist with electronics. The duo understands each element as a different way of communicating their identity, always leaving room for the mystery and interpretation of the listener. Regarding their visit to Mexico, we spoke with the Argentine duo about their presentation this Thursday, September 24 as part of the Pitchfork Music Festival CDMX 2026.
On the way to EQ Friendship is something essential, it is part of what makes this project something special. In the duo’s words, “It’s very important. I think that, I don’t know, all the times I make music with people, it’s never the same, like, being me, that when you have trust and friendship with that person, or camaraderie, I feel like it also helps you more to understand the other person’s context.”
“It is very important for my friends to understand what I do. And also for me to be able to understand my friends’ world as an artist. And I feel that as an artist that is very good, to have other friends who also do things, whether it is music or visual arts. I have many friends also in the fashion. Because sometimes the search is very personal and can get very far-fetched. And you can feel like, I don’t know, how you lock yourself up a lot in your own head and with your ideas.”
visual art in EQ It’s more than that, it’s identity and personality: “Before our music came out to the public, when we were starting the Closed Doors project, we were already talking that for us it was also very important to give a lot of attention to the visual, conceptual, aesthetic part. I don’t know, we both love it. Many arts, we really like theater, fashion, movies. I feel that we have a vision that is quite multidisciplinary, universal. I mean, if we are musicians, that’s what we study, but there are also like many other things around that stop For me, I don’t know, for us it is important that a project is well-established and well-marked. Like, well, this is the project and these are all the edges it can cover or all the physical forms it can have.”
And the creative impulse is not only limited to music, but is always present: “I feel that when we are not making music, we are simply investigating other forms of art. And, I don’t know, at least I am a big fan of the discipline, not only of music, also, I don’t know, just for the art of doing more things in their greatest depth and how to have consistency. I feel that it is a good mental exercise and it always reaches you with good results. And when we are not making music, we are consuming other types of art, investigating other forms of expression. And I feel that it is our way of bringing, I don’t know, the things that we talk about in music or the visions that we want to put in music to their greatest expression. As I feel that it is our fantasy to be able to make a world where we live, which is, I get on stage and everything looks the way I want, type, the clothes are the clothes that I want to wear, I feel like I want to see myself. I feel that it also has a lot to do with that, like being proactive with what you want in life and going for it. “Looking for it. I mean, it takes a lot of effort too, I feel like it’s difficult, but I wouldn’t sacrifice it for anything.”
For EQ a musician is communicating who he is all the time inside and outside of his recordings: “Artists are communicators and I feel that that is very important. And within the visual images there is a lot of communication. That is, whether it is a community or a message that you want to give. I feel that, I don’t know, for example, in our music, although we don’t talk about it in the lyrics, but there is always like a message of resistance, of being different, of going a little against certain canons of society or being a little more challenging, those things, that if Well, they are not in the music, it is part of us too. And like that, as communicators, I feel that we have to find a way to say it in other ways, without giving it to people so explicitly in their faces, you see? Like sometimes just by making the gesture or doing the action is already a very strong message for me.

EQ is a duo that, in addition, plays different theatrical roles, not literally but also positions itself as its own listener: “When we make music, in fact, I feel that it made us better when it comes to making songs, taking into account who is going to listen to it, or type, if I listened to this song, what would I think of these lyrics, or like, I don’t know, I, I don’t know, the durations, or getting more to the point with the ideas, I feel that that made us a little better, like, understand a little what is being heard on the other side, too.”
For EQ theatricality nourishes the music: “It’s very empowering as an artist, both to find our beta and theatrical, which I feel like lately is more explicit, people understand it more, and it was thanks to our shows, and type, it was understood, but it was something that we were always looking for, and then I feel that it is opening many doors for us to precisely how to be able to show all the facets of ourselves, of how we as people, and not only be a product that is only going to be electronic all our life, or that I am only a DJ, and how “a person who has his stages too, and who has his growth.”
