After seven years without going on stage, AC/DC made the event by taking the stage of the PowerTrip festival. The editorial team was present.
Of course, PowerTrip for Powerage or “power up”: it is above all for AC DC that the whole world was holding its breath on this evening – and this, months in advance, all the most legitimate questions arose among the fans. “Would they be able to?” YES! In a single verse and chorus of “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)” as the improbable opening of the show (yet so full of meaning!), the group demonstrated its resilience. Oh, there were hiccups and weaknesses, starting with Brian Johnson, who so often showed himself out of breath, without juice – but with a will, a desire, a generosity and a love that was so lacking in the Guns , the day before.
Twenty-four tracks: surprises (from “High Voltage” to “Riff Raff” via “Stiff Upper Lip”), some unmissable ones (a “Highway to Hell” grilled with pyro!) and above all some unmissable ones for Americans , starting with these six extracts from the multi-diamond Back in Black that they could not fail to play to definitively get into the pocket of the same public who had adopted them in 1980 with “Hell’s Bells” and “You Shook Me All Night Long”. Especially since this evening, at the time of the fiftieth anniversary of their history, the boys once again had everything to prove – with a temporary drummer (Matt Laug), a 76-year-old singer with an eroded throat, and an Angus Young to the long white mop of hair, less unbearable and with more timid duck walks, but with ten fingers much more agile than the 50 million others narrated on “Let There Be Rock”.
Cannons and fireworks on “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)”: thank you, we have just attended the concert of the weekend — no, of the year.
