Achille Lauro launches Fondazione Madre to help children in difficulty

Inspired by the album Ragazzi Madre and his past, when his mother hosted and helped less fortunate children, Achille Lauro created Fondazione Madre, together with Andrea Marchiori, with the aim of intervening in a concrete way on the fragility of youth.

In Rome, more precisely in Zagarolo, Casa Ragazzi Madre will open, a reception facility intended for young people aged between 11 and 21 who experience difficult situations linked to addictions, mental health and risky behaviour.

“One of my records is called 'Mother Boys' – says Lauro – and it talked about those kids and today, 10 years after the release of that album, we find ourselves helping those kids in difficulty. My commitment was not born today, it was a theme that I experienced privately and for a sort of vocation. The first time I met Lorella (Marcantoni, who was part of the Board of Directors of the Maria Letizia Verga Committee for over 15 years, and who is now entrusted with the general management of the Foundation) it was one of my first visits to the rehabilitation center for children in great difficulty. I was very scared before entering, because in those contexts even a 'how are you?' it may become out of place, but I realized that for these kids even an hour of our time, an hour of leisure, is a great gift. Today it is a duty to realize that there are many people in difficulty and that we must put ourselves at the service of others based on our availability. My mother taught me the value of welcoming, of giving back and in such a beautiful moment in my career I feel the need to do what others have done for me“.

In addition to the shelter, the foundation will take care of children in hospital and in prison with the 'Wings in the Lanes' project.
