Surrounded by Zakk Wylde, Robert Trujillo and others, Robbie Williams revisits “No More Tears” as the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, posthumously receives a lifetime achievement award.
Robbie Williams, billed as “a longtime fan and close friend of the (Osbourne) family,” was surrounded by musicians who have accompanied Ozzy Osbourne on stage over the years: guitarist Zakk Wylde, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, Tommy Clufetos — drummer from Black Sabbath reunions — as well as Adam Wakeman, keyboardist in Osbourne's band.
Sharon Osbourne: “A career unlike any other”
Beyond this closing performance, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne were present to receive, on behalf of the late singer, the lifetime achievement award. The Osbourne family had already hosted the ceremony in 2008.
“We all know how volatile this industry can be, and my husband has been fortunate to have an exceptional, one-of-a-kind career. He remained at the top for 56 years”said Sharon Osbourne during her speech.
“Ozzy was authentic, gifted, totally unpredictable — a savage. A true artist. He came from a working-class area of Birmingham and became one of the most recognizable and respected musicians of his generation. He has experienced extraordinary heights, but also very dark periods. Yet he never stopped pushing himself to go further. »
Tributes from both sides of the Atlantic
The Brit Awards tribute is part of a series of celebrations organized in the United States for the Black Sabbath singer, a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Tributes to him included the MTV Video Music Awards and the Grammy Awards, where Post Malone performed “War Pigs” alongside producer and guitarist Andrew Watt, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Slash and Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses).
