The band presents the second preview of I Built You A Tower.

Death Cab for Cutie continues to present previews of what will be I Built You A Towertheir next studio album arriving June 5 via ANTI- Records. On this occasion, the group shares “Punching The Flowers”the second single from the album in which the band chooses to reconnect with what made them a references of indie rock.

“Punching The Flowers” arrives after “Riptides” and it appears as a pirock d ezawhere the sound of the guitars functions as the main axis. The inspiration behind the lyrics arises from an everyday scene observed by Ben Gibbard: A little boy throwing a tantrum while hitting flowers in front of a store. This image becomes a metaphor about stagnation, the feeling of being trapped even within what was once beautiful and how that frustration can end up breaking everything.

According to Gibbardthe track explores the damage that occurs when we try to step into the unknown while feeling imprisoned by our own reality. This tension reveals the general tone of the album, which is born from a complex moment for the musician, who, while on tour, faced complicated situations in his personal life.

This duality between success on stage and private collapse results in material that revolves around loss, grief and the urgency of building emotional spaces to be able to move forward. With this premiere, the quintet reaffirms its ability to transform personal experiences into compositions that connect with a collective reality.
