Father John Misty continues to present singles after the premiere of Mahashmashana (2024), his sixth study material. On this occasion, he shared “The X-panded Universe”theme that comes through Sub Pop and adds to “The Old Law”released in January, and “The Payoff”which arrived in May, as his first three releases so far this year.

“The X-panded Universe” was written and composed by Josh Tillmanwhile Drew Erickson was in charge of the arrangements and co-production with himself Father John Misty. With this new tracks, The project continues a series of songs that began to take shape during their live performances. Example of this is “The Old Law”formerly known as “God’s Trash” which was presented in its sets from the fall of 2024.

Through this piece, Josh Tillman presents a slow sound with melancholic touches, where the voice of Father John Misty maintains a reflective and distant tone. The piece uses a protagonist who can be interpreted as both a psychiatric patient and a cosmic heroine, without having to choose between either of the two possibilities.

“The X-panded Universe” marks a new chapter in the trajectory of Father John Mistywho also confirmed his first solo tour since 2013. The shows will begin in October in Los Angeles and will resume activities in December with several presentations throughout the United States, to close with two charity nights in Carmel-by-the-Sea, where he will have as a special guest Damien Jurado.
