Gorillaz return to the top of the UK Albums Chart with 'The Mountain', which debuts at number one on the UK Official Albums Chart.
The virtual collective created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett thus signs its third album at the top, after Demon Days (2005) and Cracker Island (2023).
The new effort is also the biggest independent release of 2026 so far, with around 30,000 units sold, and is the first project released through the band's new label, KONG Studios label.
To celebrate the achievement, Hewlett created a special illustration depicting Murdoc Niccals clutching the golden trophy of number one in the official rankings. The character, with his usual sarcasm, commented on the news by declaring that he was speaking “from the top of the world”, thanking the fans but above all… himself.
Behind them, in the weekly chart, the British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean comes in second place with The Art of Loving, while Bruno Mars he comes close to his third number one with the new album The Romantic, which debuts in third place.
Good result also for Mitski: his Nothing's About To Happen To Me enters at number four, matching the best placing achieved by The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We in 2023.
