Asian pop, R&B, Latin song, traditional folk and pop: on the occasion of their 69th edition, on February 7, 2027, the Grammy Awards are creating five new awards and adjusting several of their rules.
The Grammy Awards have added five new categories, which will come into effect for the 69th edition of the great music mass, scheduled for February 7, 2027. These new awards are: Best Asian Pop Music Performance, Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, Best Traditional Folk Album and Best Latin Song.
The Best Asian Pop Music Performance category, awarded to the artist(s), “recognizes artistic excellence in Asian pop performances originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, with significant use of one or more Asian languages”. It can encompass, but is not limited to, K-pop, J-pop and C-pop.
Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance, also awarded to the performers, “recognizes excellence in contemporary R&B performance for works by established duos or groups, as well as collaborations between solo artists, duos and groups”. The addition of this category results in the former Best R&B Performance being renamed to Best R&B Solo Performance.
Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, awarded to the performers, “rewards excellence in singles and tracks of a type and style of song and/or performance that cannot be properly blended into current forms of pop”.
Best Traditional Folk Album “rewards excellence in traditional folk recording albums”. The price “will be given to the artists, producers, engineers/mixers and songwriters of the new songs”. The arrival of this category leads to the renaming of Best Folk Album to Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Finally, Best Latin Song, awarded to the songwriter, rewards the “unreleased Latin songs mostly in Spanish”for at least 51% of the lyrics.
Revised eligibility rules
In addition to these new categories, the Grammy Awards announced several rule changes, including updates to the criteria and eligibility for the Best New Artist, Best Album Notes, and Best Historical Album categories. Album eligibility has also been changed: the threshold for new recordings required on an eligible album is reduced from 75% to 66%, in order to “to reduce the exclusion of productions widely recognized as new albums within the music industry”. The full rules are available here.
The 2027 Grammy Awards will air live on ABC, Disney+ and Hulu on February 7, 2027.
