Interview – UMBERTO TOZZI: Every stage has been an immense joy, but now it's time to end on a high note

Interviews

After the embrace of the Verona Arena – a “big party” full of memory and gratitude – Umberto Tozzi announces “L'Ultima Notte Rosa – The Final Show”, the final chapter of a journey that began over fifty years ago and has become the soundtrack of entire generations.

Seven dates in Italy and five in Europe, like the letters of his name and surname: a symbolic and definitive journey that seals the farewell to the live scene, but not to music.

Every stage and every stop of this tour were a source of great joy for me, unique moments experienced in extraordinary scenarios of our splendid Italy and the world.

It's exciting to think it's coming to an end, but everything has its time. Now I focus all my energy on these last live dates, together with the audience who has never stopped supporting me.

If the curtain comes down, the love for music will never go out: there will be new projects and many challenges to face in the future. These concerts will be twelve unrepeatable events, just as my farewell to the Verona Arena was last night. And it's nice that all this is happening in 2026, a special year for me, because it will mark 50 years since my first success, “Donna Amante mia””

A message that has the sweet flavor of eternal return – between memories, new songs and a last race under the sky of Italian music.
We met him.

THE INTERVIEW

Umberto, the tour ended yesterday with a triumph at the Verona Arena. What emotions did you feel?

It was a dream. Closing right there, where it all began for me, had enormous value.
The Arena is a place that has always accompanied me. I felt the affection of the audience and of my colleagues – Raf, Masini, Laura and all the others – who came to share this last night with me.
There was a lot of enthusiasm, but also great emotion.

During the evening you presented a new song, “Vento d'April”.

Yes, it is a very personal song, born from an experience I had with my wife Monica. It tells the story of a little girl, Elisa, who unfortunately no longer exists.
She was ill, we got to know her and hung out with her, and from that meeting the need to raise awareness about bone marrow donation was born. “April Wind” is our form of remembrance and hope.

Will the song be included in the new album?

A double live album with five new songs will be released on November 28th. It is a project that closes a cycle and, at the same time, tells my story on stage.

How did you build this “Final Show”?

We played with Umberto's name to create a symbolic formula: seven sports halls in Italy, like the seven letters of “Umberto”, and five European capitals for the letters of “Tozzi”.
A conclusive but celebratory journey, a “Last Wall” rather than a farewell.

It's the closing of a chapter. I felt the need to stop this “wonderful ride” of tours.
There will be future projects, but different: I have ideas, collaborations, perhaps even a documentary that will tell the story of this journey that has lasted more than fifty years.

Speaking of documentary…

Yes, we are collecting video materials from the entire tour, also thanks to a filmmaker who followed us from Australia. The goal is to make a documentary that witnesses the last great artistic journey.

Was there a moment that you will always carry with you?

The smiles. Those in the audience, friends on stage, and those who remained inside me. The little unexpected events, the laughter behind the scenes, the lightness. It was a tour made of humanity, rather than perfection.

In your speeches there is always a universal message: love, life, light…

Yes, I believe the greatest gift is love. Not the romantic one, but the one that unites people, animals, nature. We live in a world that chases useless victories and forgets the beauty of a wheat field in the sun. I wish music would continue to remind us of this.

Do you think you'll return to instrumental music, like in the lounge project a few years ago?

That record was born for fun, without pretensions. Today, perhaps, I wouldn't do something similar again. But I would like the new generations to rediscover the art of writing beautiful songs, with verse, song, bridge, and real instruments.

THE DISC

To crown the celebration of this farewell to the stage, “L'ultima notte rosa LIVE” (MOMY RECORDS, produced by Gianluca Tozzi) will be published on 28 November 2025, a double live album made up of 23 performances from the world tour rearranged with a large orchestra and five unreleased songs, produced by Gianluca Tozzi for MOMY RECORDS and by Bruno Carlo Oggioni for Art & Music Recording Studios.

Among the 5 unreleased songs from this recording project, the song “Vento d'April”, officially presented yesterday on the stage of the Verona Arena, is dedicated to Elisa, a little girl who died in 2020 from a rare form of leukemia. The proceeds from the streaming of this song will be donated to the AIRC Foundation for cancer research.

Umberto Tozzi thus confirms his support for research into this disease, a cause he cares deeply about and which sees him at the forefront: the announcement of the new live appointments follows the special appointment at the Verona Arena, which was one of the most anticipated events of the sixtieth anniversary of the AIRC Foundation for cancer research.

Guests on stage were the global pop icon Laura Pausini and the great voices of Italian music Marco Masini, Raf, Hauser and The Kolors. In six decades, AIRC has allocated around 2.5 billion euros to the best independent oncology research in our country with the aim of transforming scientific discoveries into effective treatments.

The show will be broadcast soon on Canale 5.
