Interview with Marduk

Interviews

35 years of blasphemy without concessions.

Black, fearsome, shadowy and powerful. The division Panzer Marduk advances on enemy territory. Hit hard, hit fast against your lines. We turn your strength into sand. The victory is Satan's, but the battle is ours. Your humanity is useless.

Mardukthe iconic Swedish black metal band named in honor of the Babylonian god who reigned over storms and darkness, returns to Mexico to commemorate 35 years of blasphemies by performing their classic in its entirety Panzer Division Marduk (1999), along with the hymns that have defined his legacy.

An invitation from Talent Nation and Chamuco.

The last time Marduk set foot in the capital was two years ago, in Indie Rocks Forum! Now, the group led by Morgan Hakansson returns with a tour that promises to be historic: a journey through war, darkness and artistic resistance in a world where the echoes of conflict resonate increasingly louder.

Produced by Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain), Panzer Division Marduk It is a war manifesto riffs sharp edges and overwhelming intensity that consolidated the band as a pillar of black metal.

Its original cover showed a Stridsvagn 104the Swedish version of the British Centurion tank; In its 2008 reissue a Panzer VI E “Tiger”sparking controversy due to its link with the Second World War. However, the group has repeatedly made it clear that its vision is not anchored to political or religious ideologies: its thing is sound warfare.

In interview, Morgan Hakanssonguitarist and founder, reflects on the bond with Mexico, creative independence and 35 years of unquenchable fire.

Indie Rocks!: What does this return mean? What does Mexico represent in the story of Marduk?

Marduk: Mexico marked our history. We appreciate this country very much and we return every time we can. We never say no to Mexico. The first visit, at the end of the 90s, was unrepeatable. The Mexican public is not in dispute. He is one of the best, and we should never forget him.

GO!: 35 years… does it weigh on you?

M: No. We are still obsessed with the same thing: albums that put above all things the lyric, the art of the covers and a message that cuts. New platforms do not move us, although the industry feels that it bosses the creators. We are still us, even if it disgusts them.

GO!: Do they force you to sell your soul?

Marduk: Yes, they pressure you to change. We do not negotiate: total freedom or nothing. We jumped from label to label; It matters little whether it is independent or large. If they leave you alone, you work with them; If not, you leave. Without further questions. That has been the agreement from the beginning.
We have never stayed in the same place. The result is yours. If the record labels upload the material to platforms, let them resolve it. I still buy vinyl, cassettes, CDs. This is how I discover bands that no one recommends, I rediscover old music and find new ones. I don't listen to music on the phone, I don't surf the web; The music comes to me in a box, with the smell of ink and plastic, and there I stay.

GO!: 35 years later, are there still pending dreams?

M: None. I work to make dreams come true. What I want is already coming in Marduk. I'll bet my dead body here, there's no escape. This tour brings Panzer Division Marduk entire, from end to end. And we will continue thinking and working on each album with the same intensity.

GO!: Are religious people still trying to veto your presentations?

Marduk: From day one. I don't stop them, they don't interest me. Your fear does not touch our process or our message. If their ignorance is more like fear, what can we do? We don't care about the position of those people. We have nothing to do with political or religious issues. They misunderstand us, but we don't have to explain it to them.

If their cross burns, let them stay home. We play for those who endure. That's why we can't wait to be back in Mexico and start our tour of Latin America.

In a world where conflicts extend from Asia to Europe and screens broadcast war in real time, Morgan reaffirms that the freedom of Marduk prevails over any algorithm.

With its visceral sound and lyrics full of warlike fury, the band will tour four Mexican cities: Guadalajara (October 16), Monterrey (17), Tijuana (18) and Mexico City (19), where the Flying Circus will shake with hymns like “Panzer Division Marduk”, “Baptism by Fire”, “502” and “The Blond Beast”.

He tour —which begins in our country and will spread throughout Latin America— promises a discharge of chaos and sonic discipline. And as if that were not enough, Impalementa black and death metal group, will open each date with their surgical ferocity, marking their first presentation both in Mexico and on the American continent.

35 years of career, four dates in Mexico and a dead god leading his own funeral.

Prepare for chaos.
Impalement part the body; Marduk He spits it into the sky.
