“Take this show to as many places as possible has been a privilege.”
The Bunkers He continues touring Mexico with his acoustic tour. After appearing last April at the Metropolitan Theaterthe Chilean group will return to CDMX on October 25 and 26, in addition to visiting Mérida, Puebla, Aguascalientes and Xalapa.
We talked with the band about this new stage, the composition process, friendship as a musical axis and the challenges of being a headliner.
Indie Rocks!: Their return to Mexico is part of the second stage of the acoustic tour, with which they have already performed in several cities. Given the success of these showsHow has your reaction been to the public response in places like Morelia, San Luis Potosí and other parts of the country?
The Bunkers: Very pretty, really. They have received us incredible. Particularly the Morelia audience has been one of the most special of the entire tour. We are happy to bring this show not only to large cities like Mexico City, Guadalajara or Monterrey, but also to places like Hermosillo or Morelia. Being able to present this show in so many cities it has been one of the great privileges of this tour; We prepare it with great love during months of work.
GO!: This tour also arises from the launch of his MTV Unplugged. What did it mean to you to revisit that format and revisit your songs in an acoustic version?
LB: It has been a very nice trip, almost a return to our roots. It took us to the moment when we began to relate to the instruments and to the music itself. We pour into this project all the sounds that are part of our musical upbringing: from Anglo-Saxon to Andean and Latin American influences.
Revisiting our songs from another perspective, with the group's current perspective, has been very enriching. We have the production of Real meme and with the participation of great friends like Mon Laferte, Carmen Ruiz and Martin Benavideswhom we have known since school days. It has been a journey full of challenges and satisfactions; People have received it with great affection.
GO!: They mention Meme del Real and Mon Laferte. What did these collaborations mean to you?
LB: With meme There is a friendship and a musical relationship of many years. We work together in Free Music and since then there has been a very special harmony. His temperance when trying ideas contributes a lot to our way of working.
With Mon Laferte We had been wanting to do something together for a long time. When she started her career in Mexico we were on break, so this was the perfect opportunity. She is an artist we deeply admire and it was very special to work with her on the reversal of “I want to sleep tired”where his voice and that of Alvaro They complemented each other in a magical way.
GO!: Your music is still valid after so many years. Where does the inspiration to write new songs come from?
LB: A little bit of everything. From personal experiences, from things we experienced as a group of friends, from stories we heard. Also from our children; Many times his concerns and his way of seeing the world filter into the songs. They have a fresh and different look that inspires us a lot.
GO!: What is the secret to continuing making music in the middle of 2025 without falling into monotony?
LB: Music is infinite, it offers infinite nuances and paths. Even bands that stick to the same sound always find something new. The secret is to stay open, to love the songs and to be true to your nature. If you maintain that curiosity, it is impossible to get bored.
GO!: Los Bunkers have always shown a very particular way of composing. What is the main difference between being in the studio and getting on stage?
LB: Live everything is nourished by the energy of the audience; We are very permeable to what happens and we try to reflect that synergy in each show. In the studio there is more concentration, because what you record will remain forever. On stage there is a different opening: accidents or mistakes can happen, but all of that is also part of the magic of the live show.
GO!: They have had presentations that marked their career, from their return in 2019 to the Live Latino 2023. But in 2026 they will make history as the first Chilean band to headline Lollapalooza Chile. What does this moment represent for you?
LB: It is a great honor and also an opportunity to open doors. We believe that it can be the beginning of a new stage where more local artists are considered as headliners. There is a lot of talent in Chile and Mexico, artists with a high level and enormous drawing power. Hopefully this is just the beginning and that more projects can reach that place.
GO!: Looking to the future, what musical territories would you like to explore?
LB: (Laugh) Bachata or bailongo!
The ideas come by themselves; You can have a plan, but in the end the songs guide you. After so much time in this intimate, acoustic format, we probably want to do something totally opposite… so yes, we'll go back to rock.
GO!: For someone who doesn't know Los Bunkers, what song would you recommend to start with?
LB: “Come here” either “Dancing Alone.” It is always good to start with the classics; From there you can follow the natural path to the complete albums and discover everything else.
GO!: And to close, how would you describe Los Bunkers in three words?
LB: Rock and roll, brotherhood and energy.
Family, work and passion.
Hard-working, talented and persistent band.
