Iron Maiden celebrate half a century of career with “Burning Ambition” 50 years of metal and not hearing them.

While waiting for the concert on 17 June 2026 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan for the only Italian date Run For Your Lives – World Tour, Iron Maiden fans can warm up their engines and voices with the film dedicated to the five decades of career of the English band which sees Malcolm Venville as director. Dom Freeman is the producer for a film distributed by Universal Pictures Content Group.

A direct and energetic documentary that traces the history of Iron, but also a piece of that of Music with a capital M.

Unpublished points of view, such as those of Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich and Chuck D, but also old footage borrowed from the band's official archives, all combined with the epic story of the mascot Eddie through his animations and covers. There is also space for the visceral relationship with fans all over the world, the central role of Bruce Dickinson with his voice and stage presence, but also the true leadership, that of the phlegmatic and visionary Steve Harris. There is no shortage of references to the accusations of Satanism made against the band, but also an in-depth analysis of the many cultural references, unusual for this musical genre.

Burning Ambition is a gift to all fans of the band, without a trace of self-satisfaction or gratuitous celebration, an almost dutiful homage to a group that was able to find a strong identity, overcome the trends of pop and grunge, anticipating the times of rock metal and reaching the hearts of several generations of fans.

The signs of the many years spent on stage can be seen in the over 100 minutes of film, but the credibility remains and Iron Maiden seem to wear a few white tufts much better than other colleagues, all seasoned with a message of inclusion, which opens and closes the film, in favor of the energy of the music.

What inspired me most about Iron Maiden was their absolute independence,” says the director, “from the beginning, they wrote and produced their music according to their own instincts. They never softened their sound or reshaped themselves to fit the music industry. While many metal bands changed their image during the MTV hair-metal era, Maiden simply continued.”

The tight narrative does not lose pace as the minutes pass, but its only flaw is the fact that it teases with parts of historical songs in live or unreleased versions, without ever having the time to dwell on them entirely and make them best enjoyed.

Not to be missed.
