John Fogerty also praises NPR's work “in these difficult times” during a performance on the public radio network.
John Fogerty performs passionate versions of three Creedence Clearwater Revival classics and two solo tracks in a new episode of the acclaimed Tiny Desk from NPR — and also tells, at length, the story of the creation of “Proud Mary”.
A subtle political message
He also praised the show's host network, offering a subtle political message. “I want to say that I am an avid NPR listener”he said just before playing “Long As I Can See the Light”. “I don't want to cause too much controversy, but especially in these times, guys — just keep doing what you're doing, please. »
Before closing with “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” Fogerty thanked his fans for their years of devotion. “I have been very blessed in my life to have music as a vocation”he confides in the episode. “I've also been very blessed to have my family around me, which is the most wonderful feeling in the world — to get on stage with my family every night and perform. And the most wonderful thing that happened was all these fans, you guys, came up to me over the years, singing these songs… The fact that you embraced my songs was a rainbow in my heart. This song has a rainbow in it. »
Two years ago, Fogerty regained the publishing rights to his songs from Creedence, a triumph he described to WECB like a liberation after decades of feeling like a “prisoner of war”. Last summer he released Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Yearspainstaking recreations of his CCR catalog recorded with his sons. “I learned to take my mind or my soul back to that time”he declared.
