“I think I've been through a lot in my life, especially in the last three or four years of my life, I think it was the hardest blow I received…”, the singer began. She then continued explaining that she is very sensitive and intense and when someone hurts her, that pain multiplies:

“So with everything that really matters to me, if someone touches it in a bad way, it hurts me, and it can break me. Do you understand me? It's crazy, because I have a song on this album that is Ivonny Bonita.' I created an alter ego in my life to go through all those things. “I was kind of disappointed in myself for letting myself hit rock bottom so deep that I thought I couldn't get through anything anymore.”

It was then that Ivonny's name came to mind. The singer was on a boat with her friends when a Wizkid song came on and she said: “Ivonny, my baby.” The artist remembers that at that moment she became obsessed with that name:
“And I was like, 'Oh my God, Ivonny,' what a crazy name. If someone calls me and says, 'Oh, I'm here, your boyfriend is here with this Ivonny, I'm going to go crazy because you can say Daniela, Camila, whatever…but Ivonny, it sounds, like- I don't know…So at that point, everyone started calling me Ivonny, for the last four years, even on my Zoom calls, everything, my name was Ivonny.'

Years later Karol G met with Pharrell in the studio. The singer wanted to have the most Latin version of the famous producer. “When I heard that music, it just sounded like her, that Ivonny, that girl who had brought me here, but I never, never realized it until the end,” Karol said.

To finish, Karol G has said that she is happy with everything that has led to Ivonny:
“So I think now, I'm happy to have gone through all those things, and I think I've evolved, not only for myself, but for a lot of people. But they were hard times in which I never thought about what I went through, you know? So this song, Ivonny, expresses what I think of that girl who brought me here. That I am myself. I think that all of us have an Ivonny inside that takes us to those places that we don't know.”
