An album that celebrates the innovation and legacy of modern Mexican cumbia.

Meridian Brothers and Mexican Institute of Sound they will launch Tovar Noisetheir collaborative album, on May 22. The project, led by Eblis Alvarez (Meridian Brothers) and Camilo Lara (IMS), explores the Mexican tropical scene of the late '70s and early '80s, focusing on the transition from acoustic instruments to synthesizers.

Eblis began to come to Mexico a lot and immersed himself in Mexican cumbia, which he already knew was very different from Colombian,” explains Lara. “So we began to focus on a specific period, between '72 and '82, and decided to make an album with that essence: exciting and strange music.”

The title, Tovar Noiseis a tribute to Rigo Tovarpioneer in integrating synthesizers like the Moog to popular music, adding a psychedelic dimension to the genre. The first single, “Cumbia Fantasy”encapsulates the spirit of the collaboration, evoking the party and dance aesthetics of that era.
