Paul McCartney reveals that a Prince photographer played him an unreleased version of The Long and Winding Road recorded in rehearsal. The ex-Beatle now hopes that the estate will reveal it.
In the wake of his death in 2016, Prince left behind an impressive vault filled with thousands of unreleased tracks, most of which will likely never see the light of day. If the late musician's estate has already shared a few gems from this collection over the years, there is one in particular that Paul McCartney would like to see published: a cover recorded by Prince of the single “The Long and Winding Road”from the album Let It Be.
According to Paul McCartney, this ” kind “ reportedly one of Prince's personal photographers. He describes the recording as “rather rock”adding that“he plays a very good guitar on it”. The ex-Beatle evokes the idea of asking the estate what it would be possible to do with this hidden recording. “I could do something really good with it.”he assures.
Although the two men did not know each other particularly well, Paul McCartney recognizes Prince's undeniable talent. “He took a lot from (Jimi) Hendrix, but he was a great musician. When you watch him play, he has that style. Pow! There's just something. We feel that he knows this instrument”confides the singer, before adding: “He’s a special guy. It's so sad, these people who suddenly leave. And it always makes me wish that I had known him better, that I could say to him, “Hey, man, come on. What's going on? » It's such a shame because there is incredible talent. »
Last month, Prince's estate shared the single “With This Tear”taken from an album project that remained unpublished. Other pieces from his vault are expected later this year.
