Pulp covers “The Man Comes Around” by Johnny Cash

A different tribute.

The surprising premiere of the British band pulpfollowing the release of their acclaimed album More (2025), is a version of “The Man Comes Around”one of the last and most powerful compositions of the iconic Johnny Cash. This theme also served as the title and central theme of American IV: The Man Comes Around (2002), the last album by Johnny Cash before his death.

This reinterpretation of pulpreleased last month in the drama series ITV, The Hack, will become the centerpiece of a limited edition 12-inch vinyl that will also include two never-before-heard songs: “Marrying For Love” and “Cold Call On The Hot Line”.

Musically, pulp distances itself from the original theme. The version of Cash It is characterized by its acoustic and deep instrumentation, with a somber and apocalyptic nature of the lyrics. In contrast, pulp gives it a renewed vitality that not only revitalizes the song, but also demonstrates the band's ability to inject their own postmodern sensibility into classic material.

For those eager to own this version, the limited 12″ single from “The Man Comes Around” is now available in this linkexclusively through the stores of Rough Trade.
