It's not the same but it's more Pulp; a feeling that we thought was lost and came to move sensitive fibers.
24 years ago… What did you imagine would happen? Within those infinite futures would you have imagined that pulp Would you return with a new album? We bet you not. We don't know what else we'll have from the British band, but today we can be thankful for listening to their new album, More.
With this material, pulp was suspended in time, while we continued with our lives, Jarvis Cocker and his companions created music that today represents maturity, without leaving aside the passion for music. By being James Fordwho has worked with bands like Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode and Fontaines DCthe producer of this album, we can imagine that, together with the band, he rescued old files to give them a modern touch, without losing their essence.
More It begins with synthesizers that take us back to a funk style in “Spike Island”. From this moment we will know what the material will be about, it may not be something new, but we embrace the pulp that takes us back to old times. Immediately, we hear a new name, Who is it? “Tub”? A mysterious character that not even himself Jarvis can decipher, but which we will probably talk about decades later. (Deborahyou will always be in our thoughts and hearts).
Life is an adventure, suddenly we are in the wrong place and time, facing inexplicable and meaningless situations, but something good can always come out of there, even if it takes time to recognize it. This portrays him perfectly with “Grown Ups” and “Slow Jam”; small memories—perhaps imaginary—that he recites while playful melodies follow his story.
This is how absurd life becomes and we must take it as it comes because, despite having grown up, are we prepared to live it?
“Farmers Market” It is a slow melody, between verses we hear a poem in the style of Leonard Cohen that envelop us in a spiral of existential questions, which will last as long as we delve into the deep voice of Jarvis. We approach an aura full of mystery and romanticism with “My Sex” and we end up at a disco trying to relive the old days with “Got To Have Love”the next stadium anthem.
Do you remember the first time? How such a strong feeling can turn into monotony, but there are things full of magic that continue to explode in our heads. With “Background Noise” and “Partial Eclipse” We see things from the outside, accepting the passage of years, of time.
“The Hymn of the North” It is a well-known vexation that leads us to look at the horizon while we find our way back home or to ourselves, which, fortunately for many, is the same place.
Finally, “To Sunset”positions us in our earthly life after a long existential journey to get back on track and when we need it, return to Morebecause it will always be there encapsulated in time. The album is solid, pulp It leads us through a story that we can interpret depending on our context and mood at that moment, maybe it is more of the same, but it is more pulp after 24 years.
