FKA-TWIGS-Eusexua-Afterglow-album-2025

Continuing a musical discourse begun with a previous album inevitably implies a comparison between evolution and repetition.

In “AfterglowFKA Twigs decides to dig into the emotional traces of her “Eusexua”, transforming the euphoria of the rave into a sequence of post-threshold moments, a soundscape that oscillates between anxiety, desire and contemplation. The project was born as a hypothetical deluxe edition, but the accumulated material transforms it into an autonomous chapter: a “visceral cascade”, in the words of the artist herself, which grips the listener in the moment immediately after leaving the club.

The eleven tracks flow as a single narrative flow, connected by a thread that starts from “Eusexua”, but the gravitational center remains Twigs' psyche: introspection and body, tension and relief, in a constant dialectic. Musically, the album still travels into alien territories, where electronic, pop, urban and futuristic sounds blend into a coherent whole albeit less theatrical than its predecessor.

Afterglow maintains the coordinates of Eusexua: nervous drum 'n' bass, swirling arpeggios, tense pop that in some moments almost seems “Gaghized” (Love Crimes), contemporary urban with experimental streaks (Wild and Alone with PinkPantheress), all crossed by constant attention to corporeity and sensorial pleasure. However, the album tries to stand out with its own details: distorted guitars, rough synthesizers and more immediate textures that give the project autonomy.

If “Eusexua” felt rooted in the moment, “Afterglow” instead appears as its reflection, a sedimentation of recently passed sensations and impulses.

Not an improvement evolution but a work that confirms Twigs' ability to make psychophysical intimacy a concrete musical material, while oscillating between fascinating density and some excess of sonic overload.
