Review: GEOLIER - "Everything is possible"

There is a precise moment, listening to the title track of Geolier's new project, in which you feel an emptiness in your stomach that resembles a temporal short circuit.

It is not a theatrical suggestion: it is Pino Daniele's voice that re-emerges, enveloping like a ghost that has finally found the house keys.

I admit I had chills. Hearing Pino's voice coupled with Geolier's metric is not a simple nostalgia/marketing operation, but an almost shamanic handover, steeped in predestination.

Finding an unreleased song in which Pino repeats like a mantra that “Everything is possible” is the substance of a record that transforms the biography of a boy from Secondigliano into a universal urban epic.

Geolier doesn't simply release his fourth album: he is making a clear evolutionary leap, without ever losing the original core. At the base, Emanuele remains.

The sixteen sound stories that make up the fifty minutes of the album oscillate confidently between brazen ambition and a clear and true melancholy, typical of those who have achieved everything but have not yet realized their natural privilege.

If the collaboration with 50 Cent in Phantom it's not just a trophy to show off but a melee with the aesthetics that forged modern rap, in 081 Eminem's echo reiterates that Naples has the same specific weight as Detroit.

There is room for the phenomenology of toxic love in Two days in a row with Sfera and Anna, where feeling is a quick consumer good, and for the sound archeology of 1hwhich recovers the beats of the 80s and 90s.

Among the Latin veins of Rainbow with Anuel AA, the social contrast of A rich man and a poor manthe return to the origins of Ole with Kid Yugi and the controlled irony of Easy EasyGeolier demonstrates that he knows how to handle pop and urban without being swallowed up by emptiness, preserving a dirty, credible, concrete and irreducible root.

The closure entrusted to It doesn't rain in Naples it is the real coup de grace: a letter-confession to the city as a biological matrix. Here the mask of the “gold boy” falls, revealing an artist who observes his goals with the knowledge that success is only real if you can still smell the asphalt from which you started.

Ultimately in this uninterrupted flow of music and life, Geolier demonstrates that the “possible” is no longer an illusion or a hope. It is a splendid, tiring and irreversible reality.
