Review: TONY BOY – “Trauma”

Reviews

“Trauma” by Tony Boy is the slap in the face the scene needed.

While everyone else is still flexing their watch or getting excited about imaginary porn exploits on photocopy beats, Tony locked himself in the studio and brought out dirty realism, the real one, without IG filters.

Fourteen tracks in 40 minutes, deliberately without feats, an upgrade for credibility. Here there is no cringe of the wannabe-superstar: there is emotion, scars, paranoia, nights spent staring at the ceiling with your head racing at breakneck speed, and a success that leaves more voids than it promises.

The beats are dark, cloud carpets that drag you down, where the fog of Padua becomes a mirror of the soul. Tony slides over with an apparently pissed off flow: it's precisely the tiredness of acting that makes it credible.

The limit? Perhaps he got too stuck in his demons, risking a flow that at times seems like a single, very long mental trip. But the title track closes the game: that opening piano and the obsession with the word “trauma” get into your skull.

The journey ends with “Generazione

Antonio Hueber, born in '99, is no longer a promise: he is a confirmation. The writing is solid, mature, uncompromising. Perhaps less autotune and more melodic openings would have made everything less heavy to digest, but the evolution was useful. It is the diary of a generation that no longer wants filters.
