Ringo Starr unveils Long Long Road, his new album with Sheryl Crow and Billy Strings

Music news

Former Beatle Ringo Starr reveals details of his new collaborative album with T Bone Burnett, featuring Sheryl Crow, Billy Strings and St. Vincent, and shares lead single “It's Been Too Long.”

Ringo Starr has assembled an impressive roster of collaborators — including Sheryl Crow, Billy Strings and St. Vincent — for his upcoming album, Long Long Roadexpected on April 24. The former Beatles drummer announced the record on Tuesday March 3, while unveiling the first single, “It's Been Too Long”, with the vocals of Molly Tuttle and Sarah Jarosz as accompaniment.

The track echoes Starr's recent country influences — the low, resonant guitar riffs, high, melancholy harmonies of Tuttle and Jarosz — while incorporating atmospheric elements of psychedelia and early rock 'n' roll.

An album born in the continuity of Look Up

Recorded in Nashville with the Texans

Starr saved Long Long Road in Nashville, surrounded by many musicians who had already accompanied him on Look Up : Paul Franklin, David Mansfield, Dennis Crouch, Daniel Tashian, Rory Hoffman, Patrick Warren and Colin Linden. Burnett nicknamed the group the Texans — a name that fits the music, but also a reference to a real band Starr played in in Liverpool in the late 1950s, before joining the Beatles.

North American tour planned

Look Up had marked a strong comeback for Starr: first album since What's My Name in 2019, it entered the Top 40 of the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and reached number 12 on the Americana/Folk Albums chart. After the release of Long Long RoadStarr will embark on a short North American tour, beginning May 28 in Temecula, California, and concluding June 14 in Los Angeles.
