In a statement that places the album in a current sociopolitical context, Amos described In Times of Dragons as a “metaphorical story about the fight for democracy against tyranny.” The artist has not held back criticism, directly pointing out the “destruction of democracy” which, according to her, is the work of “Lizard Demons who believe in dictators.” This strong imagery and allegorical tone promise an album with a profound political and social charge, in line with the singer-songwriter's lyrical and conceptual style.
