Victor Willis, lead singer of the pop group Village People, has died at the age of 74.
Village People announced the sad news on social media today, July 1, writing to fans:
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Victor Willis, lead singer of the Village People.”
The statement continues:
Victor passed away on Monday 30 June 2026 due to a short but aggressive illness. We ask that the family's privacy be respected at this time.”
No further details on the circumstances of his disappearance have been disclosed at this time.
Willis was one of the founding members of the Village People in 1977 and contributed to the group's international success during the heyday of disco music, performing songs that have become iconic such as YMCA, Go West And In the Navy.
He left the band in the early 1980s, only to return in 2017, inaugurating a new phase in the group's career. He finally published with the Village People A Village People Christmasthe band's latest studio album, released in 2018.
