Vince Staples announces album with “Blackberry Marmalade”

The rapper returns with a single that previews his next album.

Vince Staples is back with Cry Babytheir new album that will arrive on June 5 and will have a total of 10 songs. As a first preview, the Long Beach rapper revealed “Blackberry Marmalade”a single that marks this new stage after the launch of Dark Times (2024).

This material will be his first work with the label Loma Vista, after having collaborated with Def Jam and Blacksmithwhich represents an important change in its trajectory. With a more independent approach, Cry Baby It is emerging as a project that is committed to a freer and more personal vision, even from its sound construction, since it incorporates live instrumentation as a central part of its proposal.

Under this context, “Blackberry Marmalade” Not only does it work as the first look, but it also brings with it a political message. In the song, Staples addresses topics such as violence and the experience of being a black person in the United States, with a narrative that is complemented by a video recorded in first person, where the viewer is immersed in the story as if they were the protagonist.

With Cry Babythe rapper will present a more introspective facet, making use of conceptual narratives that are linked to his musical proposal by incorporating different melodies along with rap.
