Mariah Carey tells Apple Music his new single “Sugar Sweet”

Interviews

Mariah Carey guest of New Music Daily Radio on Apple Music 1, presents its new single Sugar Sweet, Anticipation of the album “Here for It All”, coming in the coming months.

In the interview, Mariah reflects on the value of collaborations – such as those with Kehlani and Shensea – and renews the affection for its loyal Lambs, which has always been an integral part of its musical universe.

The interview

Eddie Francis: What does it make you say, “I will give the public a hit” and “I will put Kehlani and Shensaa in the song”?

I’ve always imagined it like that. It is one of those times when you listen to the song you have just made and think, “Oh, here it would take this type of featuring, or this other …”. But yes, this is precisely the feeling I had from the beginning.

And what is it that made you choose the two of them? Let’s start with Kehlani. What made you think: “She is perfect for me, I love it”? For me it has always been his stamp, I love him. What makes you say: “This is the perfect track for someone like Kehlani”?

First of all, I met her for the first time just last night and it was fantastic. It is so sweet, and it is one of those people who arrive, he does his own and leaves everyone speechless.

And Shenseea instead? Clearly add that dancehall vibration to the song, that this piece is really shouting loudly. What was it that made you decide to collaborate with her?

I simply loved his vibe. I thought: “It is absolutely the right person to collaborate with right now”. And I haven’t had the opportunity to meet her yet. But I love his sound. I love everything that concerns her. So I am enthusiastic about the idea of knowing it.

In this moment of your life and career – you are mother, writer, a thousand other things – what makes you say: “Ok, it’s time to create a new project for my fans, for the Lams”.

Yes, the Lambs are really the reason why this album exists. For those who are looking at us and do not know what “Lambs” means: they are my fans, and they were the ones who gave themselves this name. This is how everything was born.

And the crazy thing is that today many fanbases have a name, but yours is the first that you remember having a real identity, beyond being simply fans of Mariah Carey. So I think – you don’t have to say it – “The beons, the Beyhive, the Rihanna Navy, the Swifties, all go back to you”, because you are the queen, simply.

It’s fun. No, yes, they can go back to me, and I say it with pride. They know everything about me, of our path, of this whole story. And it’s really nice.
