25 years of punk, melancholy and creative chaos.
With 25 years of experience, 20 years since the launch of Cold Air and a celebration in the Alice Forum, Elli Noise remains one of the most authentic and influential bands of Mexican punk rock. Between melancholy, rawness and catharsis, it has managed to adapt to new generations without losing its essence. From MySpace to TikTok, from intimate settings to shows memorable, the band retains the same philosophy: making music because they enjoy it and because they don't know how to live any other way. Regarding his next presentation at the Alicewe talked with them about inspiration, evolution, independence and the secret to staying alive in a genre that never stops transforming.
GO!: His lyrics travel from the personal to the melancholic. Where does inspiration come from?
IN: I always say that they are my own stories, but also borrowed. Inspiration is everywhere, although Elli Noise It has always had this characteristic of being a very personal project. Most of the lyrics come from what happens to me, how I feel or what I need to express. But they also arise from stories that the guys in the band share with me; From there I collect seeds that later become songs.
GO!: Your sound already has a marked identity. How do you decide if a song will be melancholic, explosive or calm?
IN: We didn't really plan it too much. We start composing and let the song flow until it shows its own character. It may seem like we don't care about the lyrics, but we do: Mariana takes care of that part, while we determine if the song will be more energetic, calmer or heavier depending on the riffs that arise. Then she can write about whatever she wants, without us telling her how to do it.
GO!: Between anniversaries, albums and new stages, what is the secret to continue creating without falling into monotony?
IN: (Laughs) The secret is that it will always be a secret. In reality, what keeps us going is perseverance and the need to renew the sound. We do what we like, at our own pace, with the riffs that excite us and with the forms of promotion that work for us. We are already at a point where we do what we wantbecause we make music to enjoy it.
We are independent and we like to get our hands on everything: from videos to shows. Despite all the mistakes, that creative control has kept us alive.
GO!: They went from MySpace to TikTok. What has it been like to adapt to so many changes in the way you promote your music?
IN: We continue to adapt, even though we are terrible at networks (laughs). Yes we struggle, but we try to be present on new platforms in our own way. Fortunately, because of the band's history, we have also had support from traditional media, which gives us some extra exposure.
GO!: Your original fans now take their children to concerts. How do you experience this generational change?
IN: It has been very organic. Many people who listened to us at the beginning now bring their children, but we also find young people who discover our music and connect with it. We do not follow formulas or try to adapt to trends.
What we do do is experiment: the acoustic was an example of this, or some collaborations outside our genre that were very fun. But in the end, the most important thing is honesty: we make music from the heart, and that sincerity is what connects with people, regardless of age.
GO!: What is the difference between Elli Noise in the studio and on stage?
IN: For me, studying can be more complicated and stressful, although it is also a place where creativity explodes and we learn new things. The process of this new album has been long because we decided to do it without pressure, letting the songs build themselves. On the other hand, live everything flows: the people's energy transforms everything. The shows They will always be our essence, because that's the magic of being face to face with fans.
GO!: For someone who has never listened to Elli Noise, what song would you recommend to start with?
IN: It depends on who asks. For someone completely new, I would say listen to our latest single, “Don't Fall”. It summarizes very well what we are now: it preserves the basis of our genre, but with new ideas and proposals without losing the essence. If you are someone more into punk, I would recommend getting into the first albums.
GO!: If you had to describe Elli Noise in three words, what would they be?
IN: Melancholic, fun and chaotic.
