Soul, groove and sunset cocktails.
The Australian musician Jet Vesper arrives at Crown Capital with a proposal that mixes soul, funk and a luminous spirit that invites you to move without thinking too much. His music, influenced by groove classic and modern production, seeks to reconnect the body with the rhythm and the head with the pleasure of listening. From his studio to the streets he walks with headphones on, Vesper build a warm universe where sound is both refuge and celebration.
Indie Rocks!: I find it very interesting how you mix so many genres within your music. Could you tell me how you got there, your inspirations and a little about all that?
Jet Vesper: Yes, I think one of my “problems” is that I love many different styles of music, and sometimes it is difficult to choose just one path or one genre. But it's also kind of exciting. Deep down, the music I grew up with – soul and funk – is in my blood, I don't have to work at it, it just comes out.
I'm always open to new sounds, new artists. I consider myself a lifelong learner, always learning from records or the musicians I play with locally. It's easy to absorb a lot of influences when you listen to so much music, but the hard part is making it really work. Sometimes some ideas just don't fit, but when they do, it's magical.
GO!: I really like what you say about listening to many artists. For me, listening to music is also a ritual. How do you listen to music? Where and what do you usually hear?
JV: I listen to music in the studio, especially before creating, to boost my energy levels. Music has that power to change your mood. But I also listen a lot when I walk; I like to explore a city and combine the visual landscape with what I am listening to.
In the studio I pay attention to production details; On the street, it's all about the vibe. Lately I have been listening to several artists who will be in the Crown Capitalas Leisure and the Australians too Cut Copy. I really want to see them.
GO!: You are going to love Mexico City, it has that visual energy that combines perfectly with music. And speaking of Crown Capitalyou are going to play on the last day of the festival. What can the audience expect from your presentation?
JV: I'll be playing with a five-piece band that I've toured Europe and Australia with all summer. We have developed a very good connection and each show It feels more special. We play everything live, without backing tracksso we have some freedom to improvise and respond to the energy of the audience. It is not a free jazz session, but we do leave room for things to flow and each concert to be unique.
GO!: For those who have not heard you yet but want to see you at the festival, what songs would you recommend to start getting to know your music?
JV: The one that connects the most with people is “Love in the Open”but I would also recommend “Golden Day” and “Sunny”. I think those three songs represent my sound well.
GO!: And in what state of mind would you recommend arriving at your show?
JV: I would like people to come with an open heart and ready to let go. I want the audience to get out of their head and into their body, to dance, to sing and feel part of a community for a moment. I hope to offer you a kind of “mental vacation” while the concert lasts.
GO!: In closing, if you could describe Jet Vesper in just three words, what would they be?
JV: Beach, cocktails and smoothies.
