On the occasion of the preview of “CremoniniLIVE25” at Milan Music Week, Cesare Cremonini talked about the birth of his new live album, his relationship with live performances and his vision of live music.
CremoniniLIVE25 talks about an incredible tour, 13 stadiums and hundreds of thousands of people. How do you arrive at such a result?
I did it for this, for this. In fact, I am one of those who knew how to use bad luck in the appropriate way. My destiny was that of an artist who had a lot of difficulty performing live: after LunaPop, since 2001, it took 12-15 years to be able to get a paid concert. I sold 300-400 tickets per concert… it was a tough journey, with communication traumas and too rapid growth, with records like “Magese” two years later. But for survival I had to grow up. Today, seeing a young artist making a full forum with a record seems incredible to me. I conquered everything step by step.
Stadiums today are often considered the ultimate. Is it the same for you?
Stadiums are a sensation of freedom and extraordinary relaxation, but for me the most beautiful place remains direct contact with the public. In the end, the Palasporti are still the place where you really feel the public in the eyes. I would say to young artists: the Forum or San Siro is spectacular, but it lacks the intimacy that is needed to build a real relationship with those who listen to you. I reached the stadiums after having consolidated a path in the Palasporti: it is this mutual knowledge that makes every concert special.
How do you experience your songs today compared to the past?
I prefer my own songs now. I can do them millions of times, and in the hyper work, in the attention to detail, sometimes you lose a bit of spontaneity. I recover it live. If you listen to Now that I no longer have you, that performance was born from letting the song express itself, without thinking about how to do it, just performing and looking at the audience. It's the moment where the song really lives, more than in the studio.
What does CremoniniLIVE25 represent for you in your artistic career?
This album is the clearest form of my journey: the concert as a story, ritual, emotional architecture. It's not just entertainment. It is both a point of arrival and a starting point: I look back without nostalgia, forward without the need for confirmation. The songs don't just document my career, they tell a way of being in music, with naturalness, freedom and a particular artistic kindness.
