In 2003 the musical adventure of the Milanese band Le Vibrazioni began, led by frontman Francesco Sarcina. Their debut comes with a very successful song: “Dedicato a te”, the first single from their debut album “Le Vibrazioni”.
Also contributing to the success of the song was the video clip, directed by Domenico Liggeri, which tells of Giulia's walk and the meetings with the band members: Giulia is the protagonist of the song and is the person with whom, in her youth, Sarcina had a love story.
In the video the group finds him on a boat moored in the Naviglio, at the legendary Milanese venue “Le Scimmie” which is now closed. There were two versions of the video, with as many “Giulie”: the first blonde and the second brunette; the latter was the real Giulia Tagliapietra, linked to Francesco by a deep friendship even after the end of their relationship.
Goodbye to Giulia
In May 2024, at just 46 years old, Giulia passed away after a long illness: a pain that profoundly affected the frontman of Le Vibrazioni. This is what Sarcina wrote in a farewell post:
On more than one occasion they asked me what I meant by 'shining harmony' – as the lyrics of the song say. But, to understand it, perhaps they should have met Giulia.” He also added: “If I can't hold back the tears for the pain I feel, I don't dare imagine his family. Family that I love and will love forever as I have always loved Giulia. The pain of not being able to say goodbye and tell you how much I love you. But what is certain is that one day we will meet again and laugh at human stupidity.”
From that great pain Sarcina took inspiration to build, around the character of Giulia, a musical – or rather a rock opera, as he defines it – entitled “Immenmente Giulia”. With unpublished songs written specifically for the show, the opera tells the story of Giulia and Francesco and will be on stage in Milan from 14 to 22 March 2026 at the Teatro Nazionale.
The rock opera
I would always have liked to do a rock opera – declared Sarcina during the presentation of the project -. I was working on a musical when the news of Giulia's passing arrived. A great pain that I managed to overcome also thanks to the fact that I wrote another new song about her. From there the idea of developing this work was born.”
The story, set in Milan at the end of the 90s and in its musical ferment, narrates the meeting and falling in love between Giulia and Francesco, which for him turns into an inner growth: the real story of the singer, told through authentic episodes and partly fictionalized daily moments.
On stage – explains Sarcina – I will bring my world of that time, the generational difficulties we experienced, the dreams, the adventures, the questions of teenagers. In this, the new generations will also be able to find themselves and discover a Milan at the turn of the new millennium, full of music and venues that no longer exist today but which will be mentioned and remembered in the show. The work – specifies the author – tells everything that came before “Dedicated to you” and Giulia represented simplicity and spiritual greatness; this time I don't dedicate just one song to her, but an entire work.”
The soundtrack is rock
The unreleased music, written in a few weeks for “Immenmente Giulia”, was born without constraints:
I composed everything feeling free, without having any plans, radio obligations or anything else, as it would always be nice to do. The soundtrack maintains the naturalness of a band's sound, bringing back the spirit of Le Vibrazioni, of which two songs will also be performed, “Dedicato a te” obviously and “In una notte destate”. It will be a vintage, rock'n'roll sound with references to psychedelic rock. And then everything will be played live. I also edited some orchestrations that appear throughout the opera. In short, it's the music I've always made but without inhibitory brakes. There are real songs that could live outside the theatrical context. And for the first time I used female voices.”
On stage – where Sarcina appears in a special cameo, in the finale, a symbolic and intense moment that seals his artistic vision – a company of actors/singers will perform including Germano Lanzoni, actor, comedian and singer known as “Il Milanese imbruttito”. Giulia will be played by Anna Volpato and Francesco by Isacco Venturini. Alongside the actors, a band will perform the soundtrack live every evening: “In some moments – explains Sarcina – the show transforms into a real concert, with the band as protagonist on stage.”
