What flourishes in chaos.
In the midst of a new creative stage and after more than 30 years of experience, You won't like it presents FLOWERS IN CHAOSan album that was born between tours, moves and the need to find refuge in music. In an interview, the band spoke about the reception of the album, the importance of continuing to create from authenticity, the value of the physical format in the digital age and the generational connection they have built with their audience over the years.
Indie Rocks! Magazine: Let's start talking about the new album FLOWERS IN CHAOS. It came out in January and we want to know how the reception of this album has been.
You won't like it: The truth is that I'm not going to call you “surprising” because we were already very confident in the material, but obviously the repercussions and responses were all very positive.
I mean, a lot of people telling us that the album is great and that they like all the songs, that sometimes it's difficult: for an album to be even from beginning to end. And the truth is that we are lucky with this album.
GO!: Are you still thinking about how people's reception will be or are you already creating from another space?
NTVG: No, first we have to like it and then, when we finish recording it, the nerves begin to see what is going to happen. We do it in principle so that we like it and can defend it authentically.
GO!: Sometimes it happens that material as important as an album is first shown to trusted people before being released, do you have that dynamic?
NTVG: Yes. We did some listening for family and friends in the studio when the album was ready. We had a barbecue there.
And yes, we usually do it like that, more like: “well, family, friends, this is our new material.” And they are the ones who have the most sincere word, because if they have to tell you that they don't like it, they tell you. But no, the truth is that everyone was very excited.
The children, the family, all dancing, enjoying a great moment. Of happiness, because we had just finished recording the album, and an album that was highly anticipated by us.
GO!: Regarding the name of the album, what could it be that flourishes in chaos?
NTVG: It has to do with the fact that music is often the refuge within all that chaos that we experience daily and worldwide. That on the one hand. And, most particularly, we as a band moved from the studio after 11 years, a month before recording the album. So it also had to do with us. It was something more general and something that had to do with us: that those songs flourished within all that chaos that is a move.
GO!: And apart from that in the middle of a very extensive tour. Between 2024 and 2025 the album is formed, but they are also on a lot of dates. What was it like making the album while you were in so many places?
NTVG: Yes, we were on the 30-year tour and the songs emerged during the vacation moments we had. Some come from a little further back. There is even one that is from 2014, which was left out of the album Time Moves Forward Again and we return to it now because it found its place, its moment.
And yes, the recording was in the middle of the tour. We stopped for a month to record the album and even used less time, it was quite fast. End of the year and beginning of January is the obligatory date to rest, because later during the year you are traveling a lot and it is time to stop, because otherwise the machine does not work.
GO!: With the dates that have just been announced, this is also going to be a very busy year.
NTVG: Very moved. And we are renewed, the truth is, with renewed energy.
We have ten songs to go out and defend live and that excites us, because the other day we had a concert in Uruguay and we already included eight of the ten songs in the show. It was an incredible satisfaction to play them for the first time in front of the public and they were very well received. So we are happy. The repertoire is also renewed for 2026.
GO!: Of course, there is also this audience that has followed them throughout their career and that also adds new generations. I don't know if you have seen him at his concerts, which are also accompanied by children, brothers…
NTVG: It's true, and we love that. It's family, people who have seen us for many years and new people. Different generations. The truth is that we love that.
GO!: It is very valuable that this is also a group that, with so much experience, so much history and so many nominations for important awards, continues to create. And, speaking of new creations, how do you as a band deal with the new forms of music consumption on social networks?
NTVG: Look, we understand how it works and we know why it is, but for us it helps to think of productions as albums, that change the repertoire, that change the aesthetics.
Afterwards, people listen to the music however they want, really. But we try to give it an order and also manufacture the physical album, because we like that concept.
Then, when it reaches people, people enjoy it however they want: if they want to listen to a song alone, they listen to it; If you want to listen to the whole album, you do. The important thing is how we feel when doing it.
GO!: That physical format is super important right now. Where do you usually consume the most music? Are they more vinyl, cassette or CD?
NTVG: It depends on the situation. At home, precisely, we listen to vinyl a lot and also other forms. But later, when you are on the street, you have no choice but to use digital platforms, which work that way. And it's also very good.
For those of us who are romantic in that sense, having the complete album… we know that the artist put the track one, two, three, in that order.
And many times you don't know what to listen to. So you're at home, you look at the album and you say: “this, just perfect for this moment.”
GO!: Speaking of tracklistconsidering that you are also very sensitive to the order of the songs, what can you tell us about this one? How did you select and end up with “Falcones y Payasos” being the first to open the journey? Because opening and closing is important, for sure.
NTVG: We wanted to start at the top, with perhaps the most rocking song on the album—or one of them—and end it quietly. That's how it was put together.
And then, in the middle, let it take you through different places and colors, let it move you a little in terms of lyrics and rhythm. That's the search: that it doesn't flatter you, or that two songs talk about the same thing or have similar rhythms.
It's like it's carrying you and moving you.
GO!: Regarding the physical and visual material, what can you tell us about the cover? There is now a best cover category at the Grammy Awards. So, the industry is already giving weight to the visual, which has always accompanied the musical, but is now also part of the artistic discourse. How was this cover selected?
NTVG: Well, it is based on the work of an Argentine plastic artist called Mariana Villafañe. We contacted each other on Instagram once and I started to look at his work. I showed them to my classmates and they were great.
We took a work of hers that is a kind of acrylic cube with a paper flower inside, which ended up being the cover of the album. She photographed it and it looked amazing. She is very talented and, from that, a change of aesthetics is also born in the shows and in everything, because art is very important.
GO!: Of course, there must be a narrative thread there just like the album. The visuals are going to be in many places and they are going to use a lot of elements that emerge from there. Also an obligatory question: working on the production with Nico Cotton, who also won the producer of the year award at the 2025 Latin Grammy Awards. How did this production go?
NTVG: We brought him luck. Look, we had already worked with him on a loose song that we recorded, “I got tired”in which he participates Zoe Gotusso.
He produced that song and we felt super comfortable. It is very practical and listens to the same music that we listen to. It comes from the same side, even though it produces a lot of artists from other genres.
So we called him for this album and everything turned out the way we wanted. That is very important in a producer: promoting what we believe.
GO!: Now the 30th anniversary tour ended last year, but specifically, what do you think has led you to consolidate a career of so many years?
NTVG: Respect between us, respect for the public and always prioritizing the artistic. Then, the human group is united. Because this has already become more than a family. We are traveling a lot of the year, being together and leaving the royal family at home. So imagine that we share a lot and everything has to be right for it to work.
We wouldn't function if everything wasn't right between us. Maybe other people could achieve it, but not us. Because we rely a lot on that: on being aligned and always looking forward, all together.
GO!: Even that is seen on stage. We have seen it as viewers at live shows: when it is not flowing and also when it is flowing too much, when there is a very internal communication between you. So, well, to close the interview, they are coming on tour in Mexico and have many dates in August. What can any guest tell us about this?
NTVG: Look, we always close the guests closer to the date, because we depend on their agendas. What we can say is that we are going to open this stage with a renewed aesthetic, which is why we were just talking about. We are going to play as many songs as possible from the album and also the classics, of course, because people see us every year and a half or two years and deserve to hear those songs that they have known for a long time and are excited about. And we love doing it too. So it's going to be a mix between the new world and what we've already been playing.
We are very grateful to the people, to the Mexican public. We feel very loved here since the first time we came. It is a very passionate audience, which is dedicated to the show, and which has been growing. And we are proud to have made this journey together.
