Interview with Daniela Andrade

Interviews

Ode arrives in Mexico.

On March 6, the singer and songwriter Honduran-Canadian, Daniela Andradereleased the album Ode: a tribute to his story, his childhood and reconciliation with his mother. Now, for the first time in our country, Daniela Andrade arrives to perform live with full band and an unrepeatable show. In this interview we talk with her about her presentation and the surprises that accompany it.

Indie Rocks! Magazine: You come to introduce yourself to Mexico!

Daniela Andrade: Yes, it's my first time doing a scene in Mexico, a show, and I'm so excited. I can't wait to meet people from Mexico, because they are always the most vocal on social networks, like they are always sending me messages: “when are you going to come to Mexico?” And I'm very excited to meet you.

GO!: In the last interview you told us that there is even a very special connection with our country, because it is also related to your family's language.

DA: Of course yes, you feel it. Every time I go to Mexico I feel that there is an understanding of my music, from both sides, English and Spanish, and I am so excited to be able to participate in this conversation, that it will feel like they understand both sides of my music, from Spanish and English. And it would be my first time, because I have never done a show in Latin America, so I am very excited.

GO!: How are your live shows? What are you like on stage?

DA: Well, this scenario is very different from the last ones, because the last time I was alone with my guitar, I didn't have a band, and it was my first world tour. For this, as the intention of the world of OdeI'm trying to really put everything into the stage and with the band, also with the details of what is going to be seen in the scene. For me it's like I am Daniela in the real world, but also for the scene, like I have to bring out something different and put in a little performance, and I'm very excited about that, because it's the first time I'm experimenting with that.

GO!: When the album came out Odewe talked a little about the whole visual concept, the color red, you in the chair posing, are you also going to bring that to Mexico?

DA: That's right, yes. The same girls who designed the dress Ode They have designed dresses for the tour, and I am also bringing a chair that is going to follow me throughout the tour around the world, that is going to be part of the scene. And there are other details too that have to be discovered. But I really want to continue the conversation. Now the conversation is going to be live with people, and I want it to feel like there is a change of conversation in each scene.

GO!: Hey, are we going to be able to listen Ode from start to finish, or only certain songs within the setlist?

DA: Yes I'm loving this one setlist and this tour of Oda Tourbecause there are different chapters of my music, like I never had the opportunity to be able to tour throughout the pandemic, and I want to do different odes to different sections of my music, but yeah, there's going to be a lot of music from Ode on this tour.

GO!: Something that excites us a lot is the release of the vinyl Odewhich is beautiful, by the way, congratulations on this release. Are you going to bring it to Mexico for sale? What can you tell us about having your music in this format?

DA: Yes of course. You can expect everything you see in me websiteit's going to be available on the scene, so people can buy it. I love vinyl, it's my favorite, because music is intangible, you just listen to it and having this physical form, it feels like, “ok, it's official, the album is out.”

I sat with the vinyl and looked at it for like an hour, “wow, I can't believe it's there.” I'm very happy, I feel very lucky to be able to do that.

GO!: Will there be musicians or special guests accompanying you on this tour and this particular performance in Mexico?

DA: Yes, my friend, who is also part of my band, is going to open for me. His artist name is Brahnyand he's going to open every show on the tour. Also in Mexico it will be Kafi.

GO!: What do you enjoy most about live music? That is, when you go to see a concert.

DA: There are so many moments because I love live music, but I love to see the moments where the artist or the singer or the different musicians are in the middle of the songs, how they are adjusting, how they are preparing for the next song.

Maybe they have the monitors in there in their ears and are already well prepared, or there are others who take a moment and then go on to the next song. I love those moments in between. And I also really love the anticipation.

I love before, the 15 minutes before the artist comes out. Every time, I don't know why, but I always get tears because I'm so excited and I love feeling that emotion.

GO!: And well, in this short talk, what message do you want people to be invited with?

DA: For me, in these times, the intention with which I made this album, when I was releasing it, which was including the conversation between my mother and I, I feel that in our times the art of conversation, the art of human connection, is more important than we think.

And it is a very open invitation, with a lot of curiosity and compassion for the people who are going to come to the stage. I want it to be a conversation, for us to have a nice time together and share music and time, which are the things I find most precious these days, that real, human connection. I'm very excited to meet everyone.
