The musician collaborates with director Brady Corbet to immortalize his most recent show.
David Byrne will once again bring his musical universe to the big screen with Who Is the Sky?, a new concert film which documents the tour that the musician took to promote his self-titled album published in 2025. The project was directed by Brady Corbetfilmmaker behind The Brutalistand it was filmed in it Hippodrome Theater from Baltimore.
The film is a record of various presentations that the artist gave in his hometown. The feature film aims to show the production that the former leader of Talking Heads He performed live, in which he was accompanied by an ensemble of 13 musicians, singers and dancers. The concert repertoire combines songs from his recent production along with great classics such as “Psycho Killer”, “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)” and “Burning Down the House”.
One of the most notable elements of the production is the choice of the 70 mm analogue format used for filming. This commitment seeks to create an experience that allows the staging to be appreciated in greater detail, transferring to the cinema the visual dimension of a show built around movement and sound.
Who Is the Sky? gives continuity to the relationship Byrne with concert films. In 2020 he launched David Byrne’s American Utopiamaterial directed by Spike Lee which brought the show previously staged on Broadway to the cinema. Now, the singer-songwriter once again documents one of his most ambitious proposals, this time with the help of corbetwho seeks to capture the essence of the show in large format.
