“Mayhem” is taken from The Sea Of Emotion, the next joint album between the two American guitar heroes Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. Scheduled for release on November 6, it is the result of a decades-spanning friendship and an unlikely fusion of two different visions of composition. We also find the song “Dancing,” previously revealed.

“We’ve been preparing this since 1973,” quips Steve Vai in a press release. “Just unconsciously. » Joe Satriani adds: “The biggest surprise is that we write completely differently. And that’s what made the project so fun and interesting. »

At the conclusion of the disc, the three-part suite “The Sea of Emotion” offers a journey back in time, to Carle Place high school, where the two adolescents remade the world by dreaming of music. “The Sea of Emotion, Part 3” includes a never-before-seen audio archive: a vintage tape recording captured during one of Joe Satriani’s first lessons with Steve Vai.

“It shows how far we’ve come,” Satch explains. “We’re these two kids who haven’t found our sound yet, but are full of enthusiasm. We are pursuing something and we are determined. »
