Theo Lengyel, former member of the jazz-metal band Mr. Bungle, is suspected of killing his girlfriend.

Theo Lengyel, once an integral member of the avant-garde jazz-metal band Mr. Bungle, is now suspected of killing his girlfriend, Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, last month.

Police in Capitola, California, arrested the 54-year-old musician on Tuesday and booked him into Santa Cruz County Jail on one count of first-degree murder. He is being held without bail, according to KRON.

THE San Francisco Chronicle reports that Lengyel was a “ person of interest » since the disappearance of his partner, 61 years old, on December 3. Human remains, believed by authorities to be those of Herrmann, were found in Tilden Regional Park, and his car was last seen outside Lengyel’s home. Lengyel has not cooperated with investigators, according to the El Cerrito Police Department. The victim’s family reported her missing after she missed a flight to Hawaii, after which Lengyel reportedly went to Portland, Oregon.

The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office still needs to verify through DNA whether the remains found belong to Herrmann.

The diligent work of our investigators, in coordination with our law enforcement partners, resulted in the apprehension of (Theobald) Lengel (sic) in connection with the tragic homicide of Alice Kamakaokalanil (sic)wrote the Capitola police in a press release. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time. »

Theo Lengyel has already been cited in a domestic violence case, according to KRCR, filed by his wife at the time. She obtained a restraining order against him in 2017, and the couple filed for divorce later that same year.

Lengyel was a member of Mr. Bungle from 1985 to 1996. He played saxophone and clarinet on the band’s first two albums, Mr. Bungle (1991) and Flying Disco (1995). “ We unanimously decided to continue without (Lengyel) because he wasn’t playing with the rest of the group and we didn’t have much left for him to do.band member Trevor Dunn wrote in a Q&A on his website in 2005. He got angry and I haven’t heard from him since. »
