We recently talked about how Women DJs have surpassed the number of performances compared to Male DJs and although this is a big step, if we compare it with the number of women who are considered on the posters of the main music festivals, the percentage is significantly reduced.

That is why Gender Parity Music Mexico launch the petition And where are the music? #SonoraInclusionNOW!whose main objective is to address the gender inequality rooted in the music industry and the lack of mechanisms to promote local musical projects.

According to the study of Karina Cabrera (SonoridadMX), only 25% of the acts presented at festivals are represented by women or dissidents, evidencing inequality of opportunities. This imbalance is not due to a lack of talent, but rather to systemic barriers that this initiative seeks to break down.

“We seek to promote respect for labor rights and the creation of safe environments, recognizing the importance of guaranteeing the participation and safety of women and dissidents in venues and festivals.”

We extend the invitation to sign, share and be part of this historic initiative to transform the music industry into Mexico. It contributes to the fact that there are more and more women and people of sexual-gender dissidence inhabiting musical stages.

Sign the petition here! And together let’s make the change in the Mexican music industry.
