The Foo Fighters took over NPR's Tiny Desk for their very first visit to the famous office. Five songs on the program, including the unreleased “Spit Shine” and two classics from The Color and the Shape. Dave Grohl credits Trouble Funk with packing twelve musicians behind the desk for making him want to do it.
NPR's Tiny Desk managed to accommodate the six Foo Fighters during a recent visit to the radio office, where the group played a five-song set mixing hits and new releases, opened by “Spit Shine”single taken from Your Favorite Toy. The cramped setting did not faze the band, accustomed to stadium scenes: frontman Dave Grohl leaned towards the microphone to rumble “You know I don’t really give a damn”before the rest of the group takes over with melodic choruses. Once the song was finished, Foo Fighters just smiled, and Grohl joked that the mic was “the most difficult instrument of all to play”.
Before moving on to “Learn to Fly”Dave Grohl told the office how important this concert was to him. “It’s an honor to be here”he declared. “I've watched so much Tiny Desk, I have several favorites. I have to say, when I saw Trouble Funk crammed into that small office space, I thought, 'He's not that tiny.' …But it’s great to be here. »
The rest of the setlist included “Child Actor”also taken from Your Favorite Toyand two of the group's timeless hits, “My Hero” And “Everlong”from their 1997 album The Color and the Shape. Once the show was over, Grohl leaned towards the microphone again to launch “Thank you, it was really nice”to ovations and cheers from dozens of NPR staffers.
Apart from an appearance at the BottleRock Napa Valley festival, North American fans will have to wait until August to see the Foo Fighters again: the group will then string together almost two months of dates, starting at Rogers Stadium in Toronto.
