New album, new tour.
The Argentine band led by Tom Quintans will be back in Mexico City on August 22 as part of the tour for the launch of his most recent album material, Going nowhere fast, last May 15. Due to this visit we spoke with Baby Beast about his new album and the expectations of his concert in our country.
Indie Rocks! Magazine: Where is Beast Baby now, that is to say: At what musical moment and career do they define themselves?
Baby Beast: A little over a month ago we released our new album. We just got back from a tour of Europe and now we're already thinking about what's next. The idea is to present it in as many places as possible.
GO!: Tell us the story behind the cover of Going nowhere fast.
BB: I bought an analog camera because I wanted the cover to be a photo, although I still didn't know exactly what. I started taking photos almost everywhere: shows, rehearsals, recordings, vacations. When we were in the studio, at a time when we were all together, I made a selfie. When I developed the film, I thought that photo was great and it immediately emerged as the cover. I tried others, but that one conveys something different. I like that there are people who think it's great and others who hate it. There are no grays.
GO!: How did you select the order of the tracklist from the acoustic to the most indie electro?
BB: I like to try to surprise the listener. Our albums almost always start with a song at the top. So, in this one I liked that it started like this, without drums, with the instruments joining in little by little. Then the order is given: that it does not go down too much, that there are no similar songs together, etc.
GO!: As a band, where do you find inspiration to release new music after so many years of career?
BB: First of all, the desire to continue making new music. I get bored of always playing the same thing. Furthermore, you hear different things as time goes by, and that also infects you and inspires you to do your own thing.
GO!: What do you have planned for your visit to Mexico?
BB: Eat tacos, drink beer and present new songs alongside the old classics.
