Music news

Contemporary Latin music has a very specific center of gravity, and the idea that female artists should move in a gregarious or purely decorative space compared to the male urban universe is now a remnant of the past.

With the release of his seventh studio album, “No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto” (READ THE REVIEW), Karol G consolidated a position of industrial and artistic leadership which places it, in terms of specific weight, cultural impact and ability to fill stadiums, on the same level as Bad Bunny.

If the Puerto Rican artist has undermined the codes of reggaeton by integrating elements of fluidity and emotional expressiveness, the Colombian singer has followed a parallel path by redefining the concept of bichota. What began as a feminine declination of the term bichote (street figure) has become a brand of economic and narrative autonomy. Her status as the first Latin headliner in the history of Coachella and the numbers of her world tours are not passing exceptions, but the demonstration of a now consolidated commercial and cultural hegemony.

In this trajectory, the relationship with Shakira represents a key step. Collaboration in TQG it was not only a strategic operation for the charts, but the attestation of a generational continuity between two central figures of Colombian music. If Shakira had to build her global career through the linguistic transition to English, Karol G operates in a market that understands the Spanish language without the need for mediation or translation. The bond between the two thus takes the form of an explicit alliance: the narration of the romantic breakup ceases to be a moment of subordination and becomes a factor of cohesion, independence and re-appropriation of one’s public narrative.

“No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto” is part of this path, marking a clear change of register compared to the sunny and festive atmosphere of the previous one “Tropicoqueta“.

The album was born in a phase of personal isolation and reflection, conditioned by the end of the relationship with his compatriot Feid and by the need to manage the solitude imposed by the rhythms of the recording industry. Rather than replicating the most immediate rhythmic formulas, Karol G chooses to put vulnerability at the center, claiming the exposure of one’s feelings as a conscious choice.

With this work, Karol G demonstrates that the dimension of global superstardom does not necessarily require the mask of invincibility. The decision to tell the story of the phase after the spotlights went off adds complexity to his figure, confirming an artistic maturity capable of managing both the consensus of the masses and the more intimate dimension of writing.
