Quique Nice He has been on stage since he was ten years old. Her artistic qualities have allowed her to make a career in the world of musicals and star in the continuation of A step forward – the sequel was named after UPA Next – in Atresplayer Premium. Music, however, the music industry, is something that has always been flitting around in his mind. He tried his luck with a song that he made for his friends to listen to and now he’s going all out and doing it as a full participant in the Benidorm Fest.
“This thing about Benidorm Fest had not crossed my mind. I was calmly at home and Sony called me on the phone because it was the first year they had a composition camp.”says Quique Niza in this interview for WECB. “They had seen me work in musicals, they knew my profile and they wanted to offer me this opportunity.”
In the world of music I am almost nobody. I have a single of mine on Spotify and, suddenly, I release another one that is going to Benidorm Fest and has 150,000 streams

Six songs came out of that composition camp, but Quique presented to the Benidorm Fest the three that he saw with the greatest potential. RTVE’s internal team opted to Prisoner. The others will come out at some point, but in the end this is the purest candidacy that represents its most personal version. “The other proposals I sent were more danceable and, although I dance on stage every day, I think that the Quique that manages to convey is the Quique with his piano and a very clear song,” he says. “Prisoner marks a before and after. It is a single that is very important. In the world of music I am almost nobody. I have a single of mine on Spotify and, suddenly, I release another single that goes to Benidorm Fest and has 150,000 streams, which for me was unthinkable”.
Quique Niza is the youngest contestant at Benidorm Fest 2024, but he doesn’t give it much thought. He takes his performance in the contest as another gig, although he is ambitious and has orchestrated a staging that, in his words, has never been seen at the festival. “Being the youngest contestant is not something that worries me, I have to use it to my advantage rather than against me,” he says. “We have come up with something that has never been brought to Benidorm Fest. It’s very me, but he has something that breaks you and throws you off balance.”
I am an actor, I work in musicals, but I had never had an opportunity to expose myself as Quique

Regarding the idea of going to the Eurovision Song Contest, Quique Niza still hasn’t assimilated it. “I have a sixteenth chance to represent Spain in Eurovision… damn it. It is responsibility and it is a big challenge,” she says. “In my case, it is not that I show up at Benidorm Fest because of the exposure I may have. Exposure is already winning. It sounds cliché, but it’s true. I am an actor, I work in musicals, but I had never had an opportunity to expose myself as Quique”.
